I've just found other drummers who, for my taste, I enjoy listening to more, and inspire me to play more. The other cats you mentioned are great as well, as are all of the guys mentioned in this entire thread.

I'd like to see a list that didn't involve fusion/jazz drummers only, there are other kinds of music that also demands technical drumming.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Not all lists have "fusion and jazz drummers only" (why this is a bad thing is way beyond me). Mine includes David Garibaldi, not a fusion/jazz drummer, Zig from The Meters, and Clyde Stubblefield/JabO Starks from James Brown's bands. Weckl and Gadd are on there too, but they deserve the mention due to the influence and inspiration they give me.

3. Pete Zeldman-the multi-dimensional (and demential [img]wink.gif[/img] ) rhythmic visionary
4. Jack Dejohnette-the multi-directional rhythm man
5. Zach Danziger-a magician of time and space

Honorable mentions-Tain, Roy, Elvin, Bill Bruford circa 80's King Crimson-Bill and Adrian Belew were straight up geniuses in the 80's. [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]

do you know everyone on my list? Specifically Stephen Price and Prairie Prince? Jeff Porcaro isn't a jazz/fusion drummer. Stephen Price was the drummer from Pablo Cruis and Prairie Prince is/was the drummer from The Tubes, as well as sessions with many others. Hardley jazz/fusion. These guys are on my list because they were able to play great, clever, drum parts in a pop music context, while still serving the music, and having a KILLER pocket and groove.

But, that's just me...
